When i acceleratemore quicklyin my 86 i hear a strange engine noise around 2nd or 3rd. It's like a fast ratteling noise that seems to come more from the passenger side of the enginethan from the driver side. Once it shifts into the next gear however the noise is no longer there. Transmission issues would be my guess?It's an automatic.I'm not much of a mechanic so if anyone knows what my problem isI would appertiate a response.

 

After some research last night i read some similar stories on how the 2nd-3rd syncro ring in the transmission becomes worn and causes a sound like mine. If this is my problem any ideas on how expensive this might be?

 

700r4 is the transmission I assume is in your vehicle. Can you pinpoint which gear you specificallyhear the noise? You say "...around 2nd or 3rd..." can you be more specific? Is it at the top of 2nd gear and bottom of 3rd, or both? Does the clicking speed up and slow down right along with engine rpm? Could be the gears.
