Default Replacing Fuel Pump

Hi,

Went to start me vette (1988 C4 ) the other day.... no go! She cranks no worries but wont fire up. When I turn the ignition I don't hear the fuel pump prime up and when I look at fuel pressure gauge that is fitted under hood on fuel rails I have no pressure, even when I'm cranking motor over. Does anyone have any instructions on removing and refitting fuel pump?

Thanks

Everything sounds like fuel pump, EXCEPT, "no pressure while cranking". That means nothing (the fuel rails prime when you turn on the key, then the pump kills, until it gets an rpm signal from the distributor. Then it restarts the pump again).

I've seen the removal procedure in here before. Get a search-on; it'll come up...

Hey Jethro...

Changing the fuel pump is pretty simple. All you'll need is a phillips screwdriver and a #10 metric socket and drive. Also a regular screwdriver to un-do fuel line clamps. The whole thing pulls out thru the gas tank access. Takes about an hour if you're being careful. Be careful...gas fumes will become an issue if you're indoors.

Well,

As the consensus was looks like fuel pump I replaced fuel pump and all looked good, turned ignition got instant fuel pressure 45 PSI turned the the key and no worries fired up revved no worries. Off on a couple of times no worries.... next day started straight off thought to myself, you beaut, I nailed this problem...... got in drove down the road 5 minutes into it, guess what? yeap no go go juice! pulled over, tried starting her, no go popped the hood no pressure on fuel gauge that is fitted to fuel rails...... gave it another couple of minutes...... cranked her over and away it went! 45 PSI on gauge! what the hell is going on?

Other than the fuel pump, which you replaced, what else have you checked?? Are your injectors ok?? Do you have proper ignition and injector pulse? Is your distributor in proper working order? How about the fuel filter?? Fuel lines? Spark plugs, wires, any sensors and their connections? Your connections to your injectors? Anything missing or not connected? Crank sensor? Anything may be wrong here....a deeper search to trace this problem seems to be warranted...hope you fix it....God bless....Joe

Need to check supply voltage to the fuel pump. Could be the f/p relay next to the master cylinder.
