Please Help! Oil Pump Pressure Problem. Gauge or Pump??
I have a 2005 C6 with Heads/Cam. Yesterday, while on the highway, I heard a ding and looked down and it said 'Oil Pressure Low' I looked at the Oil Pressure and it was 0. I said OH **** and turned the car off on the highway and coasted to the shoulder. I didn't hear any clanking or any weird noises. I restarted the car and the pressure was sitting at like 30-32psi and then it started to fluctuate down and went to zero, then back up to 30. I gave it a little gas and it wouldn't go higher and it started to drop again and it went back down to 0. I pulled off again and called a Tow and had it sent to my mechanic. Of course it is not acting up for him and he said he took a manual pressure gauge reading and the pressure was fine. At this point I'm concered because I don't want to **** my motor up. He said it could be the sending unit being messed up causing the gauge to get messed up readings and that it's most likely not the pump since its a solid mechanic pump that usually don't go bad. He said it's possible the oil relief valve on the unit could of gotten stuck. I just don't know what to do first. $200 parts/labor to replace the sending unit or $1000 parts/labor to replace the pump. What would you guys do if you were in my shoes?
