Default Service Light

My service light comes on 10 minutes after putting on the cruise but everything is running great. It resets after I turn the ignition. The code is for the EGR valve. The light will not come on if I don't use the cruise. Has anyone else had this problem?

Hi, the only thing I can think of that the cruse control, and EGR valve have in common is vacuum. They both getvacuum from the air intake. Check all the vacuum lines associated with the cruse and egr for cracks or splits especially where they connect. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

1st, what year is your car? L98 engines have a switch in the tube off the right hand exhaust manifold that provides a ground for the egr vacuum solenoid when it reaches a certain temperature. Your EGR vacuum solenoid could be bad or the EGR valve could be bad or the EGR port in the intake could be stopped up. The reason the light comes on at cruise speeds is when the EGR is commanded on by ECM the most and the ECM watches O2 sensor readings to determine if EGR is working. If the ECM doesn't see a change in O2 voltage when it commands solenoid to open and apply vacuum to valve, it sets the CE light.

Sorry that I forgot to mention that it's a 92 - LT1. Thanks for your input.

I was getting a repeat egr code (32) on my 92 LT1, could not find anything wrong, the valve opened when I put a vacuum pump on it, but after replacig the EGR valve the light has not come back on. I did take the valve off a couple of times and clean it out with carb calener and the check engine light stayed of for a while, but then came back. At this time the check engine light has been off for about a year.

Hello, where does the vacuum hose attach to and from? Do you know where there is a picture?

Senior moment and I'm sorry to all thatread and responded to myproblem. I must have forgot to re-attach the vacuum line after I had replaced the intake manafold gaskets. Although its back on, the weather here in northern Ohio is too wet for me to try it out. Thanks again to all that tried to help.
