hello, i have a 93 ruby and today i noticed a symbol flashing on my dashboard right below my speedometer number.it looks like it is flashing the letters s y s right where the fuel range number is normally shown. i was thinking it might be an electrical short of some kind.has anyone encountered this before? if so could you please tell me the fix. thanks

 

That is probably "SRS" for Supplemental Restraint System. Something is wrong with your air bag system.[8D]

 

the safety restraint icon is on the other side of the dash in the driver info center. these letters are right below the speedometer digits where the fuel mileage reads as a number like 120 etc. the sys symbol is to the right in the instrument cluster next to the check oil etc

 

Does it have an aftermarket stereo? Either way, its stored a trouble code. You need to pull codes and find out what it is. Its the SYS warning indicator. If you don't know how to pull codes here is a link that tells you how or you can take it to Vato Zone and they can pull them for you.

My cars SYS warning came on when my alternator went bad. It will come on due to electrical malfunctions. It continued to come on after I replaced the alternator. I disconnected the battery, waited a few seconds and reconnected and it has not been back on since. I hear it will also come on sometimes due to a radio swap or malfunction.

 

Probably new battery time?
