Default Watered the grass and engine last nite

Made mistake and used degreaserand wateron 92 Vette Coupe
with 71,000 miles on it. It started back up right away, it
ran for 15 minutes ,but was rough. Tried to leave the driveway to dry it out more
and it stalled. This morning it starts, and is still rough and
sputters when I put it in gear...Any suggestions...Will it
clear itself out with the heat of the engine? Please dont say Opti-spark
Thanks
Paul

I have a 92 and I drove through a puddle that caused the same symptoms you are describing. I solved my problem by starting my car and letting it idle for close to an hour. Eventually it started to run well enough to drive, and after a few days of regular unaggressive driving it was 100%.

I didn't say it, but yes that's what it is........

I have posted a lot of info on the Opti and as bad as you do not want to hear it, your Opti is dying. Try pulling codes and see what you get. I bet you get code 36. If it will crank and run but with poor performance your going to pull a 36. If it won't crank you will pull a 16. 36 means your getting low res without high res. 16 means the opposite. In rare instances after everything has had a good amount of time to fully dry out and (and this is a biggie) if its JUST water sometimes they will work properly again. You use any type of cleaner, solvent or especially if you get coolant in it and its toast. Coolant (or solvent and cleaners like the ones in degreasers)will eat the grease inside the sealed bearings. This causes the common shaft to wobble. If there is a wondering idle or a high RPM miss, you can blame a bad cap/rotor. The cap/rotor fails due to carbon tracing, caused by moisture getting into the Opti.

Thanks
I appreciate you guys taking time out
of your day to help a newbie out
I let it run10 minutes today and it backfires
a bit, but seems to be improving
I will try to let it run a while tomorrow

Some people have gone as far as to incorporate a hair dryer under the hood to help dry it out but that seems a little extreme and I don't think it really does any good. Getting a fan under there might help get the air moving but if it real humid where you are its probable not going to help either.

O.K.

You probably fried your Opti

You guys are going to think I'm a little ****. However, I use degreaser in a small plastice cup, a toothbrush, old dish towels and paper towels.[8D]

Kinda time consuming yet at the same time FUN

Plus, you end up feeling really proud when people admire how "beautiful" the engine compartment looks when you open her up

Let the comments fly...
