What Octane Gas?

RE: What Octane Gas?
Yep, I was just looking at the Chev sales brochure on our cars at lunch today, and there it was... 93. My buddy even pointed at that and said "wow, that's quite the octane requirement".... of course, that caused me to smile.

Haha, i have actually raised many-a-eyebrow in my car when someone who doesnt know about it is riding in my car and i pass a cheap gas station and read off the premium price in amazement. They question why i said that it was so much when regular is 20-40 cents cheaper and so i promptly explain to them that my car is better than their little 4-banger piece-o-crap and it requires better fuel... LOL

RE: What Octane Gas?
I usually throw the 89 in. But the gas station down the street from my house consistantly has awesome gasoline (shell). the state did an inspection for octane, and the 87 actually had 90 octane, the 89 had 92, and the 93 had 94. so im not doing too bad by putting the mid grade in.

I have faithfully been putting Sunoco 94 in my 87 Vette for the past 8 years; does this mean that the 89 is OK to use without worrying? You seem to have good luck with the 89 octane in your car. How long have you been doing this?

RE: What Octane Gas?
I read an article many years ago that you can run the lowest Octane in your car as long as it doesn't knock. That you are paying to much for high Octane if you don't need it.
But I have also heard just the other day that the new cars with computers will adjust the car to what ever Octane you put in and that it wasn't good to change your Octane back and forth because this would screwup your computer.
I would say in the long run that you own a Corvette for the preformance of the car and that it will perform best with High Octane gasoline (93).
