02 vette: chirping
My 02 vette has begun chirping. At first it was rather quiet, then grew louder, until now it is quite annoying. I have been to 2 different dealerships, each of whomreplaced the serpentine belt/tensioner system (replaced 6 mos apart, not cheap!). This only stopped the problem for a matter of days. The last dealer says they called the Bowling Green engineers about the problem and claim the vette engineers told them it is a glitch in this partcular design. I was then instructed to put... wait for it... corn starch on the pulley system! Yes, I tried it... it lasts about 5 hrs, then the now steroidal chirp returns. The car runs like a dream, as always, but it is becoming embarassing... people turn and stare when I come rollin' up... it's loud, yall. Please, any advice, tips, etc would be greatly appreciated. Oh, yeh, I was also told that getting a new one would solve the problem... and I'll do that eventually, but I still want to keep this one... Thanks for any help!
Man Bro
I could see how this could be very irratating. All i can say is keep taking this back, accoding to the dealer those engineers said this is a glitch in this particular model? Well than they need to figure out what exactly is going on here and repair it.

Are you sure it is the belt or perhaps one of the pullys. when the new belt is installed it's tightnes may stop it temporarily. remove the velt and check the pullies and accessories that it runs. It may be something like an idler pully going bad or dry barrings. good luck.
Sometimes, we have had to use brake clean on the serpentine pulleys along with a small wire brush to clean. Probably what has happened, one of your serpentine pulleys is out of spec just a bit, just enough to glaze the v's in your belt after running it a bit. Trouble is, which pulley? Listen carefully to it and see if you can determine which pulley it is. [8D]

You can use a short piece of hose the listen with.

LOL.. Bazactly...I assumed intelagance. of course be very careful when dealing with a runnung engine.
Thanks for all the input, yall! I really appreciate it! I'm pretty much of a spaz, so I think I'll get someone else to do that hose thing... I believe I qualify in the intelligence category, but as the man said, "a man's got to know his limitations" (or girl, in this case).I founda vette shop here called LT1.... the owner works mostly on midyears and "coke bottles", but I'm sure he wouldn't mind listening to it for me to try to pinpoint the offending pulley. I'll let yall know what he says.
Mine does the exact same thing, and as he said VERY embarrasing! Took it to a Chevy dealer and they said the ball barrings in the tenion pully are out most likely, said it would be $165 just to take the car in and listen for sure, I said thanks but no thanks. But if you are standing at the passenger door facing the hood it is the closest pully to you, almost directly in front. If at the hood facing the engine, the top left pully...could use a little helpful info on this as well!
