Annoying squeak
Hi everybody. I'm new to the forum and have searched with no luck. Hopefully someone here has had this problem and can help. My 2000 auto conv't has an annoying squeak coming from the pulley section. I just changed the belt and tensioner pulley with no luck. The noise is more of a metallic bearing-like squeak (bird chirping sound) than a loose belt. It is coming from around the center of the engine, not the alternator. I shut off the engine and sprayed wd on the all the pulley shafts (trying not to get any on the belt, of course). Some background noise went away, but the basic squeak is there and as loud as ever. Looks like the vibration damper is a one-piece job now instead of a two-piece like my older vettes. The car has no abnormal vibrations, however leaving me baffled. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Check for a cracked or loose pulley on one of the accessories, or a slightly misaligned pulley. You should be able to see rust streaks coming from the offending pulley if it is cracked or loose. Looks like cinnamon dust. Dayco recently came out with a new design "W" groove belt designed specifically to eliminate problem squeeks from slightly out of line belts. You might also want to check for loose mounting bolts on the accessories.
