Default B&M Short Throw Shifter

I just traded my 96 LT4 for a 2004 with a 6speed. Does anyone have an opinion on the B&M short throw shifter. It seems very stiff. Hard to go from 4th to 5th and then 6th. Is there an adjustment to loosen up or is this something I might have to get used to?

I had one on my '02 and it was very stiff when new, but it wore in slightly and I got used to it.

Most aftermarket shifters are designed to help speed shifts in the quarter mile: they are really designed for speed shifts from 1 to 2, and in particular they make the 2-3 shift faster and more certain by almost automatically snapping into 3rd position when you leave 2nd, etc. Therefore it takes much more deliberate attention to downshift (say 3 to 2) and slightly more difficult to get into 5th and 6th.

After a while I got used to it, but it always took a real bit of thought to shift into 1stwhile moving (from second), into 5th, or particularly from 3rd to 6th (as when skipping two gears into cruising after getting up to speed onthe highway).

I'm already getting used to the shifter. My wife really has a hard time with it. I may or may not go back to factory. Thank you Lee for the info. it basically confirmed what I thought. Guys like you make this forum great

I installed a B&M in my 2000 FRC and I like it far more than the original. Takes some getting used to and they are quite stiff when new.

I agree, Lee Willis was an asset to this forum. Unfortunately Lee got disgusted and left this forum due to the trash and lack of sanitizing. I do not know where he is. I have also found another forum that is much better than this one. Try visiting ********.com, there is a ton of good information there and the forum is ALIVE!
