For me it's Auto. I've had 3 sticks in the past and 3 autos. But now that I'm doing mostly city driving I enjoy the car having auto. Plus as far as performance I don't think the new autos are any less quicker than a stick (my first auto had a "powerglide) yikes.

Im looking at 2000 convt on Monday and it's a auto with 43k miles. Both of my other Corvettes are auto, might as well make it 3 for 3 with auto. Good Luck

Get a stick! My '96 was an automatic and the reason I got the fever for another Vette was I wanted a six speed. I've had an '02 mn-6 for three years now and I still love it.

My opinion:
Sports car with auto =you ride it
Sports car with 6 speed= you DRIVE it.
98 Torch Red..6 speed..love it

I would recommend the 6 speed for the full Vette experience. It's the true sports car thing to do. I've had two C5's with the 6 speed and a C4 with an automatic. I thing the auto was a nice thing, but the 6 speed was the best experience. I currently have the second C5 with the 6 speed and am lovin it.

Hey guys, I'm taking a look a a couple of vettes this weekend. I'm torn between the auto and stick. Other than the general argument of stick for more fun and auto for less hastle during city driving, is there anything that I need to know about this model that would sway me either way?

How much of a performance difference is there if any
Does the life of the transmission last longer with either model?
Any problems known with 97-2000 models with this issue?
Thanks!
I know this is an old thread but I have an '02 Z06 (with the 6 speed of course) and get over 30 MPG on the highway (if I don't drive my Z like a Vette that is! ). 22 Mpg or so around town.

Gotta be careful though - with a Borla exhaust you're tempted to push things a bit too far sometimes

I have had both. My current Vette has the auto and I like it very much. It also has the Z51 and 3:15 performance axle ratio which I highly recommend for automatics because it gives you just a littlemore zip!

I have a 97 with over 200,000 miles I drag race it and drive it as you can tell by the miles i have . Mine is a built A4. I also have a procharger 3.73 gears Borla xr-1 racing system. When my car was stock I could take the sticks off the line but they would catch up to me at the end of the 1/4. Now they have a little harder time catching up [sm=grinangel.gif].

after I hit 160,000 miles on it I started turning it into a show car.
