C5 gas smell and gas gage quirks
While driving my C5, the gas gage was showing 3/8 full when the low fuel light came on and the gage was buried on empty. At the gas station the tank was full after about 10 gallons. That tells me that the tank was actually not empty. This has happend twice. Prior to this problem, I have noticed a mild odor of gas in my garage in the morning. I took all gas equipment and gas cans out of the garage except the Vette. In the morning, I still had the smell of gas in the garage. I've checked the floor and looked under the Vette for traces of gas and can't find anything. I think the two problems are related. Any ideas would be appreciated.

This appears to be the infamous bad sender unit, which is often a result of excessive sulpher in the fuel. Try dumping in a can of Techron and running that tankful until almost empty. Repeat if necessary.
As for the gasolene smell, check under the hood as well. The last thing you'd want is an engine fire.
