was up guys ..... i got a 2001 mn6 c5 vette car has never gave me a problem till now 75k on dash now . drove to the store and tried to turn it on and see on my dash (steering Wheel column lockd ) so i shook the steering Wheel clockwise hard that i was able to turn on the car an drive home an once i got home i was not able to turn it on no more once i parkd .my buddy let me barrow his by pass fix kit from corvette Houston i tried so many ways that it has me going nutts now from removing fuse 23,25,29 negetive cable for couple sec removing battery for 2 days reseting all codes in my dash the only thing that bothers me is the bypass kit was used 4 years ago an was never removed from his car till now wats the proper way to get rid of this problem can someone pls help me thanks

 

Welcome to the forum.

Not familiar w/ the C5 steering lock. Sounds like it is electrical in nature. They used to be mechanical w/ a cable running from the shifter to the steering column.

 

In order for the column lock bypass to work, you MUST start with the column, unlocked. If the bypass kit was never installed in your car, the dealership may install a blockoff plate (I know they did this for auto-transmission C5s).
