Default Column Lock Again.. Anyone with the recall try removing the relay and harness?

OK, I know there has been many posts about this topic. Here is what I am thinking. Went to start my vette the other day and the service column lock message appeared along with the pull key message. Ialready had the recall done back in June of 2005 (only 5600 miles though) that removes the lock and adds the relay and harness. So I intially am looking at the symptoms...column lockmessage, Wait 10 seconds, fuel shuting-off. And Istart thinkingit is the recall they did that is affecting the vehicle. I called the dealer and they said it has been more than a year yada..yada..yada. I will talk to the service manager again this Tuesday about that. So I start looking at the vehicle. First Iremove the fuses 23 and 25 and others associated with the BCM to try to reset the sequence but nothing happens still same symptoms. Disconnect battery, remove fuses...still nothing. I think to myself what did this recall actually do. I look at the wiring diagrams and it appears that the recall still sends the same voltages to the motor to drive the column lock mechanism but because locking plate has been removed and replaced with a cam orientation plate it appears it really doesn't do anything but drive the steering wheel lock motor. The other wires are for the feedback which now instead of going to the motor feedback switch in the column now get bypassed by the relay installed by the K harness. I take a couple of voltage readings on the green and black wiresat the conection of the K harness to verify the feedback coming from the relay and it appears the relay has failed. So I think to myself If the locking mechanism is not installed and they didn't remove the motor feedback switch, what would happen if I still used the old motor feedback switch instead of the bypass relay. I removed the harness and rehooked the cabling back to its original state. No column lock installed so it can't get locked. I start the car and the problem is now gone. I look at the removed relay and harness, verify continuity on all the leads and then hook up 12 volts to the two coils and nothing happenswith voltage applied to either of the coils. The relay had failed. Should I replace the relay and take a chance on another failed relay and GM band-aid or leave the cabling hooked up without the harness and no locking plate. It seems to work fine now. Is there anyone out there with the recall done that has tried toremove the relay and harness? This seems like this may be a reasonable cure. The original recallwas because of a the lock pinand clearance with the lock plate. This lock pinand plate are no longer installed in the vehicle. Someone provide some feedback. I am going to leave this like this for awhile and see how it works. I just removed the harness and relay this afternoon.[/align]
