column lock questions
Hi,
New guy here. If all goes well I'm about to be the owner of a 2000 Nassau Blue 6 speed with 31k miles. I know that it has not had the column lock recall work done. If I'm not the original owner will this cost me to have it done? If so, how much approx?
I have a good repoire with an independent shop. Can they perform this work? I would rather spend a few bucks with someone I'm comfortable with, than with a dealership I have no experience with.
TIA,
Mike

RE: column lock questions
A less expensive way to go would be to install this:
http://www.corvettesofhouston.com/index.php?cPath=29_42
It took me all of 10 minutes to install mine. I used these procedures:
http://www.97vette.com/howto/columnlock/index.html
which include a CLB that is fairly similar to the newest versions.
The bypass is now $45. I paid $100, back in 2001.

RE: column lock questions
Dave and Maverick,
Thanks for the info. Now I know it would be free at the dealership. But For the price Dave is talking about, it might be worth the peace of mind to just do it myself.
But first I have to get my hands on the car..... I keep saying it won't be long now.
Thanks again. I know I'll have a ton of questions in the near future.
