computer re-mapped but still wont idle??
just got my car back from haveing my mods done:
cam 238/238
heads 586/586, lifters, rockers pushrods, springs
kooks headers, high flow cats,x pipe, corsa indy muflers
when i picked it up they said the idle is running high on occasion, at a stop it come down to about 1200 rmp then 3-5 sec it will go to about 900rpm, when i turn the air on it goes up to 1900rpm and stays there and will not come back down. during normal shifting the idle will also no comedown fast enough between gears.
the tech said to drive it for a week and let the computer re-learn the new mapping and the idle should level out?? i said ok, but my question is wouldnt the remaping of the computer take effect right away. or does the computer really have to re-learn the way the car is running. i have only put 60 soft miles on it since i picked it up. how long should i give it before i take it back and tell them the idle is all over the place??

RE: computer re-mapped but still wont idle??
You will probably have to take it somewhere else, because it will not "learn" that much. It might get a bit better by itself . . . Wait a week. In particular drive it under different air conditions: high temps, cold as you can find -- go out at 5 Am on a chilly morning, etc., take it out in the rain even. Let it see all variations in the air it breathes, hot, cold, humid, dry.
But be prepared to pay $500+ for a good tune. A lot of tuners with LS1edit know how to re-program the car for full throtthle so you get an impressive dyno sheet, etc. That is actually the easy part. Idle, off idle, and gentle cruising at around 2200 PRM are the real challenges to get right. I had to spent around $1,100 on my vette, four trips back to gradually fix things, and its not quite perfect, but I've stopped hassling with it. Its idle sometimes does what your car does although not as far off, it has this flat spot in the throttle at around 2200 that comes and goes, and there are times (all this happens only in winter, when it is really cold air) when it just will not idle after being driven a couple of miles, unless it is already completely warmed up.

RE: computer re-mapped but still wont idle??
thanks for the input, the speed shop said the same thing, drive it a week and if does not come down to a steady idle they will re-map it on the dyno, i have only put about 50 miles on it since the mods. ill give it a couple hundred miles to see if anything changes
thanks
thanks
