Default Crimp on wheel weights

Hi Guys (& Gals). I just bought a 2004 Convertible yesterday (my 78th car!). Reading thru these post has been most enlightening - thank you!

My question: This car only has 14,000 miles on it so I don't know if the tires have been changed or not. The factory wheels have crimp on style wheel weights on the outside of the wheels. Did they come from the factory this way? I have NEVER used crimp on type weights on any of my previous cars custom wheels because of the chemical interaction between the lead weights and the alloy wheels. If the weights don't belong on the outside, I'll take note of their weights and replace them with stick-on type on the insides.

Thanks - - - -

Don't think it did, you just need to have the wheels static balanced. You can't go by the size of the clamp on weights to replace them. Static balancing uses different size weights.

I don't understand. Why can't I just put stick on weights on the inside at the same location as the crimp-on that are on the outside?

Static balance might require a little bit different weight locations on the inside of the wheel. It is best to have it done professionally with a balance machine.
