Default Door trim questions

I have a 97 C5, its white and has the door spears on it. The trim piece that starts in the front fender vent and go the length of the door. I notice quite a few pics of cars of varying years, that some vettes have them and some don't. I saw them listed in a parts catalog online, so I figure they were an option of some sort?? My question really is, how hard are they to remove. I personally like the look of the car without them, but Im afraid to see what its like underneath. Did they use mount holes or is it just that stupid strong 3M double sided tape??

Any good body shop can remove them and rub down the clearcoat underneath. Not sure what it would cost. I'd guess maybe $350-$400.

I wonder about those side trim pieces too. My '03 coupe doesn't have them. Maybe one of the C5 years came with them? cjs

those side spears were originally put on for looks as an option for all years i believe, but afterwards the engineers figured out they actually helped aerodynamics and downforce a little.

My 99 had them when I got it, I just left it in the hot sun then just peeled them off slowly. When I was going to work on the side that the sun was on, I turned the car around so the sun could worm the otherside as I was working on the allready hot side. It was really simple for me. No holes just 2 way tape undethe strips.
