Fuel Induction Service?!
ok...heres the deal: last time i took my c5 in to the dealership (where the car was purchased and has always done the service) for an oil change...they came to me in the waiting room and told me my valve cover gaskets were leaking and a fuel induction service was needed...all for ONLY (yeah right) $500...of course i said no thanks because i can change the gaskets myself...but what were they talking about when they said "Fuel Induction Service"?! does that consist of pouring some fuel system cleaner into the tank...or is there something more specific that needs to be done? ALL REPLYS AND OPINIONS ARE APPRECIATED...thanks in advance...
They must have meant fuel injection system. There are certain cleaners they can run through that do make a difference. As to the valve cover gasket. Yeah, you can replace them yourself and I would, particularly if you are running NOS -- if it leaks it likes to set any loose oil laying around and dripping down on the exhaust manifolds on fire.
Dealers vary. Some do good work. Some don't. I'd tend to stay away from one that offered "fuel induction" service.

I'm very proud to say that my Camaro and my 'vette have never been back to the dealer.
Fuel induction? Ask them how much they'd charge to elastisize the cam, too, while the car is in the shop.

I actually had this service performed and I did notice a smoother idle on the way home. In addition, when I disassembled my Halltech intake system, I noticed that the throttle body was spotless. Here's what the dealer literature states:
Fuel Air Induction Service
Service need: Deposits accumulate on intake valves, injectors, ports, fuel injectors, and combustion chambers, causing loss of power, rough idle, hesitation, misfire, pinging, knocking, mileage and hard starting.
Solution:
[ul][*]Clean fuel injectors[*]Clean throttle body[*]Clean plenum and air intake[*]Clean intake valves and ports[*]Correct balance of fuel and air in system [/ul]
Result:
[ul][*]Reduced emissions[*]Restore horsepower[*]Increased fuel economy[*]Starts and idles smooth and runs quieter [/ul]
I do know that they DID do a great cleaning job of teh TB. Whether they performed all of the above, I don't know, but the results were evident to me.
