Default hard shifting

Gents - I have a '99 C% with about 150,000 miles on it - great car, BUT sometimes it just wont't go into gear easily. If I put just a bit of pressure on the shifter and let the clutch out ever so little it drops into gear.
This was not a problem when I first got the car, about 70,000 miles ago. I changed transmission fluid and the problem improved but is now mack where it was. ALSO the problem is intermittent. I have checked the shifting mechanism and all looks tight and fine and I have tried to get to where the shifting "rod" goes into the transmission but I think I am going to have topull the exhaust and cover below to get there. Before I go that far, am I missing something?????????????????? Help

Well, it could be the shift mechanism in spite of that, but three of mine have started doing this before they go bad. Usually its 2nd and 3rd I had the problems with. In each case it gradually got worse until about 5000-10000 miles later I just gae up and replaced it with a rebuilt one.

Lee,
Thanks for the help. This is actually the cheapest thing ti try. I found new Hurst shifters on E-bay for $62 and have ordered one to give it a try. I was ready to launch into something much more drastic. The shifter should be here Mondy and I figure an hour to install it.
Thanks again
John

Sorry the $62 in my previous note was a misprint - The Hust shifter was $162 on E-bay

I think Lee was talking about the transmission, not the shifter itself.

How about if the auto only has 1500 miles???? New to vette but not new to manual transmission. This thing is way too hard to shift.
Hey this is Jackie - George will be here later.
Purchased 04 Z06 vette with 1500 miles. 6 speed transmission is stiff. REALLY STIFF. I cannot get to 5-6 without two hands. Is this normal? They guy at the dealership said it was not broken in. Something about previous owner keeps in garage and did not drive so it is not broken in. Does this sound right.
I am not a ditzy woman driver who cannot drive a standard. It is so stiff I have started in 3rd thinking I was in 1st.
I do love the clutch; it works great and not too sensitive where you kill the engine if you move your foot. I can start in 3rd without problems ;-)(grew up on a farm with an old mustangmissing 2nd gear so skipping gear is not a problem for me)but how far can you go in 3rd and 4th?
Today is the first day. Going back to dealer in 2 days to finalize. We are going to ask them to service the transmission and check it out. It is 4 years old with low mileage so you would think there is no problem.
I think I know why she (previous owner was woman) did not drive it; she could not get it out of 3rd.
