Default Has anyone ever had this happen to them...

One of my friends and I went to the Casino one night and came back out (a little richer ) and were about to leave. My friend has a '02 ZO6 Corvette FRC (I think that is the year...might be an '01), but anyway he went to start the car and there was nothing...it was like the starter disable was armed or something? After a little while messing with it I suggested that he get out of the car, close the hood and doors, arm the car and then disarm it. He got back in and it started right up no problems.

My question is has anyone ever had this happen to them before? He said that was the first time he had ever encountered an issue like that, so it sounds like it was a fluke. If anyone has any reasoning as to why this might of happened it would be apprecited if you could enlighten us on how to not make that happen again besides just disconnecting the factory alarm system in anyway. Maybe the starter doesn't have a disable with the factory alarm, but I am assuming it does?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I'll bet it was his key. Tell him to clean it (especially the black chip in it) with alcohol and hope for the best.

Actually, he did think of that and he had the other key on him at the time. He tried it and it didn't work either because he thought that for sure had to be it and was one of the first things he tried.

Thanks for the response though. Appreciated.

I've never heard of that happening. Did your friend try pulling the codes to see if there where any popping up?

Great idea, but I don't think he did try pulling any codes. Those codes should still be stored in the computer until you disconnect the battery right? I am sure he still hasn't disconnected his battery since then. I will have to pass that information on to let him know.

Thanks

The other thing to look at is the condition of his battery terminal connections. I'd recommend removing, cleaning (with an abrasive battery cleaner), reinstalling, and coating the connectors with some anti-corrosive spray.

SHould be listed as a Pass Key code if the reader misread resistor reading in the key. Might be having future problems with the reader built into the ignition switch. Seen it a bunch on late 90's GM cars.
