Default RE: headers

shorties, long tubes, and mid lengths. Forget about the others and just go long tube. You'll see the most gains and a better exhaust note. Mid length headers tend to be used just for simplistic reasons.

Pretty much what he said, I would definitely stay away from anything but the long tubes.

Everybody! If you care about this question, look at the current issue of Hot Rod magazine. In the technical letters section near the end of the magazine someone asks about header length and what it means and why long tubes are better.

There is a very long, detailed explanation given by their experts. It explains what and why header length varies power output, etc.Charts and diagrams, etc. Excellent. Among other things, it makes the point that headers really should be60 inches or longer for many street applications.

But the bottom line is: the bigger the displacement the wider the tube, and the longer the tube the more benefit in torque and HP you'll see on the street and at the track.
