how much to fix the climate control
I'm looking at a 99 Vette with a problem with its climate control. it has the dual zone with the LCD display on it, and it looks like its stuck on the dimmest setting. no matter what the dimmer is set to, there is no illumination to the dipslay, although I can see information in it. what's involved in fixing this problem? does that unit have to be repaired? about how much would it cost to repair? when I checked out this car a couple weeks ago I pointed it out to them. if its still there this weekend I think I might buy it as long as that's the only problem with it, the price is right after all. I'm wondering if I should make them fix it or offer to take it needing the repair for a better price. any ideas?
I think that I just read a posting on one of the forums (here maybe or corvetteforum.com) about the fix for that. There are some resisters on the board that need to be re-soldered. There's a guy that will do it for around $50 (I think) if you don't know how to solder. Removal and replacement of the board looks to be somewhat of a pain though. It looked like it might take a few hours to take apart and put back together.
I'd imagine the dealer (and I'm guessing) would charge about four hours labor and the replacement part would cost about $100 - $200 (another guess).
You could ask the dealer for and estimate, and then use that as a negotiating tool.

Thank you so much for posting this information, that is exactly what I'm looking for. I think I can fix the unit myself, I think I'll give it a try. worse case scenario I just have to buy a new one anyway, which puts me back at square one.
I just wanted to say thanks again, I was able to fix my climate control this weekend. it only took about 1 1/2 hours of total work to get it all done, it was very quick and easy. great info!
