on my 1999 C-5 the windshield wipers works Intermittentally. They turn on and off without touching the switch. this happens while driving and while the car is parked after turning the ignition on. can anyone offer a suggestion before i take the car to the dealer?

 

Check all connections (especially ground) for corrosion. Electrical problems relating to ground and harness connections are not uncommon.

 

They should look for a bad ground so so forth before anything else, but they will probably tell you they want to replace the entire stalk the wiper controls are on since problems with the switches and internals inside the switches and lever are usually why it fails. I would tell the service manager you expect this to to fix it: if it doesn't you have some moral cause for recourse even if not legal.

Its not cheap - I had to have it done on my vette (same thing happening but in my case we bent it while working thye care) and it was about $300+ bucks if I remember right. You .could take it to a private garage but they would probably do the same thing.
