Default Opinion and thoughts.

Just got my vette back from Rocky Mountain Corvette because a pulley for the supercharger failed again. It was a different pulley than the last time, I ended up having them replace almost all the pulleys and spent around $750 bucks for parts and labor. If this keeps happening every 4 months or so I think Im going to sell my vette and maybe get a C5 Z06 or a used C6. I told the owner of RMC my plans if this continued to happen and he wanted to know what I paid for my vette, I told him $26,250 with 28 k miles on it and his jaw almost hit the floor. He said if he was selling my vette it would list around 35 - 36 k with all the mods I have. I was wondering if other people would agree with his estimate?

Mods - Supercharger with after cooler.
- cold air intake
- upgraded fuel injectors
- 80 mm BBK TB
- upgraded gears and tranny to support the extra hp
- the car is lowered about 1 inch looks very aggresive
- hotchkis front and back anti sway bars
- battery relocated to the back of the car
- headers and x pipe ( if I keep the car I am going to put corsa or borla mufflers on her to complete the exhaust setup)
- Z06 rims with yoko tires 19 35 295 in the back 18 35(I think) 275 in the front
- Z06 calipers front and back
- eradispeed rotors drilled and slotted front and back
- Z06 working air ducts
- both tops clear and silver
- dyno proving the hp the car puts out.
- Boost and air fuel ratio gauges in A pillar pod.
- black 5% tint Very dark but looks very sexy.
- other mods unknown, I need to contact the previous owner
- If its true still waiting for others to confirm C6 Z06 fast for half the price.

ANYONE WANT TO TALK ME OUT OF SELLING HER PLEASE DO SO EVERYONE AT RMC SAID I SHOULD HANG ON TO HER EVEN WITH THE SUPERCHARGER BELT PROBLEMS.

This of course would be a person to person sale not through a dealer, I think a dealer would give me 20 k for the car. I would list the car as having trouble with belts and list high so someone could talk me down.

Im still not sold on selling her but I cant afford 700 bucks every 4 months for belts and pulleys, if it happens once a year I could live with that.

One more thing this would most likely be a Lee question. 2 different guys at RMC told me my car was C6 Z06 fast, dont know if its true. I went home and got on gran tourismo (spelling) and built a vette to the specs of my car, I then ran it on the 1/4 and it ran a 11.6 on street tires which would beat a c6 Z06 right? I know its a video game but GT 3 and 4 are pretty accurate as far as specs and physics go so I thought this was maybe close. ( I also ran it on Forza motorsport with a C6 built to my specs, they dont have regular C5's but it also ran an 11.6 on street tires). If this is some what accurate then I could list it as another selling point. C6 Z06 speed for half the price.

Thanks to everyone for the help!

Chargedvette....I can only go by California prices but my opinion is that if you let your vette go for anything under $35,000 you lose!
Here in Riverside California they're selling a '03 black C5 coupe with 24,000 miles for $36,000. Other vettes of similar styles are going for about the same price (see autotrader.com and look up zip codes starting with 925_ _ ). If you're going to sell your car do it here in California (through the internet) so at least you'll get the most $$ out of it. Frankly, even with your frustration, I wouldn't change your vette.....I'd change your mechanic!

chargedvette02, I would agree with pecemkr and I would start to wonder what the heck is going on with those pulleys, and why are they failing. At this point I would have to start questioning your mechanic there at Rocky Mountain Corvette. I can tell this is frustrating for you, especially since your thinking about getting rid of your Vette. I think 35K for yours and all the mods you have on it is a fair asking price, however to get someone else to feel the same way and fork over the money may be a little more difficult. Is your mechanic giving you any reason at all why those pulleys are failing? Do you have another shop nearby you can take it to?
I would have to say, keep the car, you have allot invested, and you have made it "YOUR" car. Getting what you want from it after telling them of the problems with the pulleys, I think people would tend to shy away from the deal. I'm not saying it's not worth it, but if you don't know what's wrong with it, than how is the new buyer going to know?
Keep it, and find another mechanic to look at it.

Thanks for the comments guys but this is the second place I have taken it and we do know what causes it but we cant seem to find a fix for it. I have also read that this is a very common problem with vortech and procharger systems on C5 corvettes. Procharger does have a bracket fix but I cant find anything for vortech as of now, so im kinda stuck. Im also thinking of take n off the supercharger and going back to the stock intake. I would still have headers and exhaust plus most of the other mods that are already on the car minus the supercharger. I think im going to run with it and see how long till the next time a pulley freezes up, if it can last over a year im fine with it and can afford it but every 3 - 4 months is killer.

So is the actual bracket flexing under the strain or what?
Man to spend all that money on a supercharger, and than to continue to have problems with it without the manufacturer having a fix! That has to be frustrating.
And EXPENSIVE!!

I just spoke to my mechanic and he said your belts and pulleys should not be giving you trouble. Here's another vote for changing your mechanic. Your car sounds like it has been a labor of love and I say keep it. I definitely would not advise getting a C6, as they have problems all their own.

Good luck with your vette.
