Is it Possible?

Is it Possible?
Just curious if it is even possible to remove an A4 tranny and put in a 6 speed? I'm assuming if it is possible that it would cost a lot...would there be other issues? PCM problems? When they make them are there physical differences between the 2? Bracing? Besides the obvious of not having a clutch, etc? Just curious.

Yes, you can do it. If you have: a) a good shop manual and all the right tools, b) a place to leave the car unassembled for long periods, c) access to a place you can go back to many times for just the right little part of detail (surplus, or wrecking yard) you can do it. Will require lots of little details and etc: its not changing the trans, its getting every other small part and lever and wiring harness change and re-programming and changing the rear axle ratio and etc. etc. etc. made, but it can be done.
Whether it is worth the cost compared to selling an auto trans car and buying a 6-speed is another matter. Difficxult to tell.

I wouldn't have the knowledge/ability to do this myself...so I would have to find someone/someplace that could....I got such a good deal on mine with the A4..less than 14,000 miles on a 97....I've gotten into some racing...so I think maybe when the auto craps out I will do it....who knows...although I met someone else that has a C4 and has raced it for the last 8 years and he has 210,000 miles on his A4 without any problems. I guess I am just tired of everyone rolling their eyes when they see it's an auto! Do you think I could get much $$ out of the A4 when I took it out? I'm just mulling over the option.
