possible C5 i could buy
hey everyone. im new here so i figure i say hello before i post my topic.
this guy at my work has a 99 C5 with around 27k miles. auto, t-tops. only thing is its been sitting in his garage for 7 years. hasnt started it, hasnt moved it. i asked him why that was and he said he hated the car. it worked fine when he parked it.he said it was too small for him. he told me hed sell it to me for 10k flat. hes got new tires for it, but itll also need a battery and driver seat, seeing that the original one is all torn up for whatever reason. i know id have to for sure change all of the fluids and maybe the plugs and filters. other than that i dont know what i should do.
what do you guys think?
thanks

Buy a battery for it and then take it to a shop to get them to check it out. Also get the VIN and check it out on carfax. To me this sounds like a too good deal. With the seat in the condition it is in I would question the milleage. Likewise chaniging the fronts at this milleage due to wear from normal use would be suspect. Even if you spend $300 on a battery, carfax report and a once over at a garage this is a loss worth taking to save yourself a lot more trouble. It could even be stolen or a defaulted loan! The carfax will tell you a bit about the milleage and the owner. Did you get any feeling to as whether the guy was kosher or not?
well i work with him for one thing. hes a really nice guy, seems honest. he actually did some work on my car i have now (we work at a car dealer north of Chicago and hes a mechanic). he said the seat just ended up like that over the years due to it just sitting there. im going to take it to a chevy dealer and have them check everything.
Sounds legit, I would still get the carfax. If it all checks out it sounds like a steal.
I suddenly remembered that Lee had posted about seat wear. Check this out. Do the seats look like this?
