A Procharger is a supercharger, a centrifugal type like the Vortech, as oppsed to a screw/Roots type like the Eaton/Magnusen or the Kenny Bell. I've had both on a 'vette. I had the Magnusen on an otherwise stock '02 ZO6, and it was by far the better set up: a very sweet kit and fit well and ran well from day one, with gobs of low end torque, excellent throttle response, and a wonderful howl at full throttle. You do have to replace your hood with a new one with a bulge to clear the Maggie, though, and, with paint, that will run a couple of grand, making the Maggie more expensive (on the other hand the hood looks very good.
I had a Procharger D1SC later on, a considerably higher output than the P that you normally put on anear stock 'vette: I had a built C5R (essentially an early LS7, before there were LS7s) installed that made about 515 RWHP and I wanted more. The biggest maggie then would not blow enough air (they have a slightly larger one now but I'm not sure it does either). The Procharger was an okay unit but I had lots of minor problems I eventually sorted out it did not provide the throttle response or the low end torque boost of the Maggie (but then the 7-liter C5R didn't need it), but it sure blew a lot of air at high RPM.
If you can afford the hood, go with the Maggie.

Lee, the main reason why I would go Vortech is the hood. Certain colors are very difficult to match perfectly (like my Mag Red II with its yellow-tinted clearcoat)and I surely would NOT want to spend the bucks to have my whole car painted. If you are going to have an old, faded car repainted, then the new hood would make sense if it meant getting a Maggie. However I hear that having 3.90s and a Vortech is a real blast with sticky enough rubber. That'd be my choice with 490 RWHP as the result.

Makes sense if you like it that combination. I spent $2200 on top of the cost of the hood just on the respray on my vette, and I loved the look of the hood bulge.

3.90 gears represent a 10+% increase in revs at every speed, which is too much for me, I like to let torque handle the issues off the line and was considered going to a 3:15 gear on mine: I though the engie would pull it. 3.90s and a Vortech: I'd minitub the rear wheel wells and get 345 drag radials, antying else won't put the power to the ground.

I have 3.42s, so with standard-width tires, that ratio should be fine with 490 RWHP.

y2001c5,

If I were you, I'd find out how easy or hard it is to match new hood paint to the rest of your car before getting a roots-type. Here in San Diego, there are many happy ProCharger and Vortech owners running around. I guess it all depends upon your money situation as well.

Have you considered turbocharging rather than supercharging? Pros outweigh the cons imo. Whichever you decide, remember to research your installer as carefully as what you are installing.

The best route is to set your goals down on paper - how much power, etc., then carefully research the cost and issues associated with each option, screw type (Maggies are slightly different than a true roots type). I do think, for day to day fun operation on the street the Maggie is great: it's a well developed no-hassle kit, it makes as much power at the top as you can reliably put through a stockLS1 or LS3 bottom end, it has no lag or time to build up like turbos and centrifugal SCrs, and it produces more torque lower down, which makes for a very relaxed, powerful feeling car in daily driving.
But the Maggie may end up looking to cost you an extra $2K for the hood, paint, etc., which is something to consider, because Vortech and procharger kits do work well.
So, check out everything and then make your decision based on what you want, what you'll get, and price.

Any system, turbos, Procharger, Vortech, Magnusen, will push a LS1, LS6, or LS2 to around 475-490 RWHP. That is all the stockengine and drive train will handle: I know, I've seen three stock short blocks come apartwhen the boost was turned up to get 510-525. The fact that turbos might produce more power is irrelevant unless you are going tobuild up a really good bottom end and use heavy duty everything.
