Seat play
I have a 2001 Convertible. Both seats have play when starting and stopping. Feels like seat moves about 1/2 in both ways. Saleman told me all c-5's he had driven have same problem. Is this so and what is fix for problem?
Many new C5 owners had the dealership fix their loose seats under warranty. I think the problem worsens as the weight of the driver goes up. My seat moves just a small distance, so I never bothered to bring it in. Give the local dealership a call and ask the service manager if he or she knows what is done to fix the problem. Maybe you'll get some advice you can use on your own.

I have a 98 coup (That is totally awesome by the way)! However one of the fixes that I had to make was play in the seats. I learned from speaking to many many many people that play in the seats is a common problem with C5s. I also learned that the problem is several small worn out pieces of plastic that GM does not sell! I learned that several sites on the internet give detailed discriptions on how to fix the problem yourself. I spoke with the dealership service department and learned that they would fix it to the tune of $1,400. I was told that they only way they fix the problem is by replacing the lower guts to the seat (track, motor, guides, everything) GM sells the thing as one unit and they have a hefty price tag. I checked with the parts department and learned that the seat units make up the bulk of the price for the fix, with only about an hour worth of labor. I was not about to pay $1,400, I spoke with several local Corvette dealers (Corvettes of Houston / Dallas, and Corvette Country in Austin) All three places told me that the problem does not have anything to do with the weight of the driver (I believe, because I do not sit in the passenger seat but the seat has play). The problem is a design flaw and all C5s should suffer at some point during their life span. All three places said that their service departments rebuild the lower units on the seats. All three said that it takes about a day, and that they would only replace the parts necassary, and would replace the worn out plastic pieces, with pieces they prefab. The cost for the re-build was $150 per seat. I had both of my seats rebuilt, and one recovered with the same original leatherand the total cost was less than $600. If you check with your local specialty dealers and shops that specialize in vettes, I am sure they can take care of it for you. I was also told that the play in the seat will never get any worse than the 1/4 inch you feel. The seat can not come off its track. If your in an accident bad enough to knock the seat off the track, you got bigger problems than the loose seat.
