Shop Recommends Tranny 'overhaul'
Just took my 98 Ligenfelter to a performance shop recommended by Lingenfelter...Took it in due to the Trans temp too high message. The shop just told me that the transmission (automatic)is slightly slipping in fourth and the fluid was burnt and is also leaking a little bit. He recommended a tranny overhaul or replacement...
If this is the case what would be a ballpark for an auto tranny rebuild? (cringes)

Is the tranny beefed up or stock? My rule-of-thumb with auto trannies is that a factory rebuilt tranny has a better chance of lasting a long time. Plus, the factory is likely to incorporate any upgraded (improved) parts into the rebuild.

its not too bad if you do the R&R yourself. My trans guy did mybench rebuild for 600 and that included kevlar band, new servo, kevlar plates, shift kit, etc.I hadDelenzie Converters rebuilt minefor $100. I had them"tune" it to stall out at2800 RPM which made anice difference. most of the labor at these shops is for R&R so if you drive it in there and have them do it all, you're in for a couple grand. believe it or not I have experienced the stock trannys live the longest out of any transmissions I've ever owned. Factory Chevrolet transmissions alsoalso have outstanding warranties on them... check it out.
