Supercharger for a C5
I've been doing a bit of my own research, but since we all know you guys are more knowledgable than anyone else I thought I'd ask you guys[8D]
I got a 2002 Stock Z06, no mods are on it right now, I want to put a blower in it, but I'm not really sure what the best one to get is, or what other things I'm going to need to do to ensure the stability and lifetime of my car. I'm also trying to keep the price down so anyone who knows how to be frugal with this and tell me the price would be appriciated also.

Are you going to do the install, yourself? I've heard that a new scroll supercharger has hit the streets. Maybe Lee has heard about it and knows more. Around here (Southern Cali.), the supercharger guru (Andy at A&A Corvettes) uses Vortech superchargers.

First, a stock LS6 can take up to somewhere around 475-480 RWHP without succumbing to a very short life: at 465 they last a long time, at 520 RWHPthey last about a month (I've seen everything from split blocks to burst pistons to bent rods), so somewhere in that gray area is a line you don't want to cross.
Procharger and Vortech - not much to choose between them. Both are centrifugal so theymake their power at higher RPM: compared to scroll or screw types they make less low and mid range torquebut more power at the top. I prefer self oiling models and when I bought only Procharger offered that. If you get a Procharger, get A&A corvettes strengthened tensioner/idler bracket. An advantage of either Procharger or Vortech. is that you can fit the unit under the stock hood. Really knowledgeable people will still know you have a SCr from the sound, but the car looks stock and you save $$ otherwise needed for a new hood.
Scroll or screw type superchargers: I prefer these because they are positive displacement superchargers and so the low end torque is better even if HP at the topis a bit less, and torque is what makes a sweet running daily driver. Perhaps the best single modI ever made was a Magnusen on my stock ZO6 LS6 engine. With headers but without intercooler it made 465 RWHP and I drove it ever day to work for two years with no problems. But with anintercooler and smaller pulley it can barely blow enough air for about 550 RWHP (just enough to blow up a stock LS6 in quick order -- I saw it happen to a friend's). So when I went to the built 427 I had to sell the Maggie and buy a mid-range Procharger model (not like I really need the low end torque anyway with 7 liters and big portheads) as at that time only centrifugal units had the capacity I needed.
Kenny Bell now sells a scroll/screw type model for 'vettes. It has much more capacity than the biggest Magnusen. For it you definately have to have a built engine with premium aftermarket rotating parts and pistons (and I'd recommend an iron block) - it can blow to about 900 RWHP if your bottom end and head gaskets can take it.
One downside of either one of these is that you need a new high rise hood - with paint that will run you about $3000.

Thanks for the info guys, I'm not really interested in having to build the engine, I'll look into procharger or vortec, as my vette will be a daily driver.
Now Lee was talking about the Magnuson SCr, but what kind of kit would be needed for that?
