Default Targa Top destroyed. Insurance claim or not?

Didn't go through my usual drill, and didn't latch it down. Top blew off on the highway. It's trashed. Fortunately, nobody was behind me at the time.

Any thoughts on making an insurance claim or not? I can buy another top on ebay for around $500, but I'm concerned the fit won't be good unless a specialist does the work. I have a $250 deductible on my comprehensive.

Thoughts?

The last time that I did something dumb (backed into my moms new car[:@]) I called the insurance company and asked them. They said "your premiums will go up by X dollars a year for Y years assuming that you don't have another claim" From that it was simple math. Is X * Y more than than the cost of having it fixed and paying out of pocket?

No brainer.....just pay yourself and consider a lesson learned.....my guess is it won't happen again, save your "claim" for a better time

I agree, do NOT use the insurance company unless it is not your fault. By the way, in many cases you can save quite a bit of money if you raise your deductable.

I would say don't claim it. It is not worth the rate change. Call to see if it will go up, but I am sure it will.
