TIRES
Hey guys....new to the forum, so let me start off by saying hi....
Unfortunately i just found a screw in my front tire....(psi = 19)~ these are the Goodyear run-flats that came with my vehicle...
there is plenty of tread left (since it's my front tire...LoL) so can the tirebe fixed?
i've heard various answers from various people...
personally, i never did mind the ride on my run-flats, and i currently do need a pair of rear tires since my tread is quite low...so should i get a different tire?if so, what tire?and if you don't use run-flats, what do you guys do when you get a flat (i don't feel comfortable driving long distances without a spare handy, and towing my vette seems like something i'm NOT interrested in doing)
PLEASE HELP!!!

well, the run flats are best on vette's for that reason.(no spare).....and while i'm not a tire expert, i'v been told that theycannot be repaired. As for towing, be sure to keep an eye on the driver...seen alot of busted oil pans from being loaded onto flatbeds and the driver pulling it over a hook....makes a nice big hole.
According to Goodyear, the EMT runflat tires that are OEM on a C5 Corvette may be repaired twice while still retaining the speed rating. This does NOT apply to sidewall punctures, of course.
When my rear tires had 16,000 miles on them, they needed to be replaced. I just couldn't bear to replace them with the same type of tires, so I bought the best tires you can buy for a C5 - the Goodyear GSD3s - far superior to runflats in every way except steering response. Handling ability and ride are now like night and day compared to the OEM tires.
I do have a plug kit, compressor and aluminum Mercedes jack for emergencies, but to be honest, I have owned Corvettes for almost 28 years now and have never had a blowout that caused me to be stranded. Whenever a tire became impaled with a nail, the leak was so slow that I had plenty of time to get to a tire shop. Keep in mind that not all shops can dismount or mount runflats. Damage to the wheel is easily done and installation is a 2-man job.
Now if you drive around all the time with bald tires, then you are asking for trouble, but for most people, having a blowout is akin to getting killed in an airliner - possible, but so slight a chance as to not worry about!
