want to get a 99-02 C5.... coming from a 03 s2000
i'm thinkin of selling my MY03 s2000 for a 99-02 vette.
what do u guys think? the only things i can think of
s2000
Pro: smaller, better handling during canyon drives (which i love), i love driving it its fun. will last for loads of miles.
con: its slow... and no torque... i want something faster with a nice punch
the same: about the price of gas and maintanence. and insurance will be the same also (i checked)
C5 vette
Pro: faster, better looking IMO, its a vette
con: doesnt handle as well, cant goto canyons (as fast as s2000), doesnt last as long (or will it if u take care of it and dont abuse it, and change its oil orderly, etc)
everyone says that corvettes will break down, and they're expensive to fix, and hondas last forever. i need some real experience here...
thanks.

Oh I'm not so sure about this. I bet a Corvette will out perform that honda, and even stock i bet it will take those canyon roads just fine. Go with some performance shocks and a Hotchkis swaybars, and it will perform better than the Honda.
And you will have maintenance costs with both cars, It's all about how you take care of them, AND any car WILL last FOREVER, just depends how much you want to spend to keep them going.
I guess you could see where I am headed. I would definately make the switch, and sell that S2000 And that Corvette will be way more fun to drive.

I have driven an S2000 hard a couple of times and they are a lovely car, lite, balanced, and very poised. But . . . If you have not driven a 'vette hard do not be too certain it will not out handle the Honda. Honda always under-sizes the tires on its cars, so I have little doubt that on stock tires the S2000 will not perform as well as a 'vette in sweeping canyon roads - with their wide tires and big V8 torque are just about the best possible there.
One thing to remember is that a vette will not feel as light and easy to point: you almost have to manhandle them on sharp switchbacks, but they stick like glue and have enough torque to just bore out of corners like a lightning bolt: use it right and they are damn fast on a curved road.

I haven't owned my vette long but you also seem to get respect on the road. My wife drives a 330ci and you get very little respect in this. I feel like the BMW handles better than the vette but I haven't really had the opportunity to test the vette out yet. I hope to do this on a track soon! Near term blowing away people at the lights in a straight line is fun and always puts a smile on my face.
My friend had a Lotus Elise and this was a fun car, classed alongside the S2000 in the UK but I would always have the vette over this. I looked at all sorts of vehicles before buying and swayed away from an M3 for the vette. Go a take a test drive if you haven't and you won't be dissapointed. These things have so much power it is awesome. I have an auto but let my friend drive it and he felt that this was almost as quick as his sports bike on a certain stretch of road.
This is a true American muscle car with a 5.7ltr V8 which I am sure is under significantly lower duress than a higher reving import and should be good for a lot of miles with the proper care.
I like my vette, can you tell - lol.

Twist the roads enough and a Miata will blow by a Vette (Don't ask me how I know this!). Really, a light sportscar is a much different animal than the Corvette, but the key is TORQUE, plain and simple. It's addictive - once you have it, you are a slave to its power. Both types of cars are fun to drive.
Regarding reliability: The Honds is more reliable, but that Corvette torque.....................well, you get the picture - we are willing to put up with more problems, just to know that the torque is there, ready to crush tiny 4-bangers with a flick of the ankle. I know....I've owned 4 rotary-engined Mazdas that were turbine-smooth at any rpm, but had no torque.
I think you get the picture..........
