Weird Problem
I have a strange one for you guys. My vette has been sitting for a few weeks due to poor weather. I went to go for a ride last night as the sun came out and discovered a dead battery. This has happened before and I didn't think much of it. I put the charger on it and decided to check the charge this morning. When I went out to the garage today the blower was running for the defrost? How in the world can the blower motor be on and running with the car turned off and the key out of the ignition? The only way to stop the fan was to disconnect the negative terminal on the battery. Has anyone ever had this happen or heard of it happening? Could this also be the reason the battery was dead to begin with? I don't drive the car very often so I wouldn't be aware if the fan was blowing at strange times. I haven't connected the ground back up on the battery yet but am going to shortly. Will be very interesting if the fan still runs.
No - the fan wasn't on high, and wouldn't turn off even as I put the key in the ignition and turned to the on position then turned the climate control off - fan still ran. This is when I killed power to the car. I went out this afternoon and turned off the charger, connected the battery and started the the car. Everything seems fine now? Really strange huh.
I had 97 vette do exact same thing, two months ago. Had dead battery, hooked up charger, and heater fan started blowing. I could stop fanby pulling fuse for heater. Only way fan can run with key off is to be grounded. Mine was grounded thru the BLOWER MOTOR CONTROL MODULE. I replaced blower control mod and haven't had a problem since. Good Luck
