Where do i place floor jack?? Help
Hey i need to know where i can place a floor jack under the rear of the car to install my billy boat exhaust please help me with this. alot of people say the rear cross member but its aluminum?is this okay if i support the sides with jack stands please help
You place a floor jack on the floor!!
Just kidding. I would assume that you would just jack it up and place the jack stands on the sides as to put them out of your way. I put my car on jack stands for almost all the work i do under my car. But then again, I dont have a C5 so i dont know if they are different.

(I'm sorry, I just couldn't help myself. [&o])
Seriously,..... If you jack it up by the 3rd menber housing, it'll be O.K. Use a block of wood between the jack and the rear end.
If you jack up one side, then the other, you are putting side force in play. If you don't have your stand set properly, the car can come down, stand and all.
Jack the whole rear straight up, set both stands, then set your car back down. It's just safer this way.
Always use jack stands. Don't crawl under your car without them!!!

yeah.... i know how to jack a car up but i need to know WHERE i can place the jack without hurting anything. So the cross member is okay with a piece of wood? great now i just have to find a jack that sits low enough , sorry yall this is my first vette and chevy so im just learning. This vette stuff is a whole nother world to me i luv it tho
You are definately going to need one of the small "Sprots car jacks" as i call them. I have no clue what they are actually called. I went out and bought two different jacks because i didnt know which one was small enough. It ended up i had to return both of them and get a smaller one to fit under my C4! Good luck to you

Another option you might use, wheel ramps. They are cheeper than a jack.
I always try to add a "safety note" to my advise. When using ramps, chock your wheels, that are still on the ground.
A lot of people read the posts, and ya never know who may benefit from a little extra advise.

I have to jack mine up all of the time. As a DD i put on the miles.
make up 4 2x12s with beveled edges to drive up on. then the jack will fit under to the cross member.
jack the front first (I have a piece of rubber in the cup) from the Center (for balance) and block crossmenber outon the sides just at the wishbone connection
there is a nice flat spot. I use 3 4x4 blocks to each side. Then jack up the rear crossmember at the center and block the member at each side also.
Remember to lower the back first and front last in revers order of jacking or the nose will hit the floor

I would lift it where the lifting pucks go in (buy a set).
When I put my first aftermarket exhaust on, I bought a set of ramps, and some boards (to extend them, not a fine enough angle or approach even with the extenders which came with them), and backed the car up on them, then worked underneath. Much better (and safer).
