WORLD SUPERPOWERS!!!
I was just taking a look at the September issue of Road & Track. They featured a showdown between three American supercars and three European supercars. They gathered the Lamborghini Gallardo, the Porsche 911 Turbo, and the Ferrari F430F1 and ran them against the Ford GT, the Dodge Viper SRT10 , and the ever majestic Corvette Z06!
They took the cars to a test track in Italy and put them through their paces. We're talking real superpowers here! Too bad they didn't include the Porsche GT.....(glaring oversight!!!). Anyway, after all was said and done the following results emerged:
- The Vette Z06 came in tied for third with the Viper for best lap time.
- The Vette Z06 came in second for top speed (197 mph). The Ford GT beat everyone with 204.4 mph!!!
- The Vette Z06 came in first for average cost/MPH.
- The Vette Z06 beat the Viper in 0-60 mph, 0-100 mph, and quarter mile! (4.1, 8.9, 12.2@118.7 respectively).
- The Vette Z06 beat the Lamborghini and Porsche from 0-100 mph and in the quarter mile!!!!!!
And the best part of all........the Vette cost only $65,690...by far the lowest priced of the bunch!!!
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.........so nice to see I'm part of a proud heritage of good ole fashion American muscle!
BRING 'EM ON!!!!!!!!!!!!! [8D]

RE: WORLD SUPERPOWERS!!!
There is no doubt in my mind that just about any Porsche is worth the money. I actually feel that my Carrera, at just about exactly twice the sticker of a standard vette of the same model year, was as much or more of a bargain. Vette's give you incredible performance for the money, but the Porsche is screwed together well, and has far, far fewer flaws and design gaffs such as the "dead batery issue" that dominates the C6 forum. In a certain way, I have always viewed a new vette as nothing more than a good starting point: you sort of have to sort it out yourself.
I do not take a tremendously negative view of this. Chevy is just responding to market demand: if people were willing to pay another $40k for a Corvette that was built to Porsche standards, Chevy would offer that.

Point well taken Lee......I just have my little black corvette so your "starting point" is my end point hehehehe
I realize the quality in workmanship may be better in a Porsche or in a Ferrari, etc but, to me, the experience of owning a vette goes beyond that.....it's really more like an opportunity to own a piece of muscle car history. I feel part of a proud tradition. It's something that makes me want to declare the Corvette as the best even when I know there are other cars out there that are perhaps better or faster in other ways. It's like when you talk about your wife/girlfriend as if she's the best thing on earth when you know there are so many beautiful women out there but somehow....yours is the most beautiful of them all!
But you make a good point.....for some it's a starting point.....for others......the realization of a dream.
