Default X-pipe, or no X-pipe

Looking to have a Magnaflow axle back installed. I asked the technician if I should just go ahead & install the X-pipe at the same time. He says that the X-pipe wouldn't do me much good unless I had headers. The car is an otherwise stock C5. So, is the X-pipe worth the extra $300, and 1/2 hour labor to install?
