Default Mods and Warranty

Greetings...08 C6, Machine Silver...Cp w/z51, paddle. I am dying to start throwing stuff at this awesome horse. What happens to the warranty if you install say...a performance exhaust, Air Intake Kit, Custom Wheels and a really big one...LSD doors. I am looking for the straight scoop from a knowledgable owner...local dealer says fine...but I am not convinced. Your help is most appreciated.

Be Carefull....It's not always up to the dealer. Say you have a big claim, sayyou blow your transmision, they have to get aproval from a GM rep. If a rep comes down and see's your larger diamiter or wider wheels, aftermarket intake & exhaust ect. he could deny the claim even if dealer doesn't object to your mods. My advice hide your mods or know how to take them off in case of a big claim.

The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act of 1975 (you can google it for details) states, among other things, that the manufacturer must PROVE that your mods caused the failure in order to deny warranty coverage. It's not likely that your wider tires will blow you engine.
Take a look at this link (just forgive them for having Fords): http://mustangforums.com/m_1524512/tm.htm

Lets hope you're still happy when the bills come in. Remember it costs about $100/HP.

Just another word of advice ....be prepared for a legal fight and expensive lawyers and a unhappy outcome!! Even with the magnuson act!

I ve seen GM warranties void for as little as one size tire change( going from 275 to 285) headers, intakes etc. Gm will say driveline was not designed with that size tiresize thus altering driveline ratios and deny transmision rear end claims..... Headers.......car was not designed for increased horsepower stresses....

Believe me or not this is REALITY!

PS. Oh and ive even seen claims denied when dealers found wadded up rubber under rear fenders from doing burnouts sighting abuse!! SO guys, make sure after going to the track and heating tires wipe off all ruuber build up!

I've just had a fuel system warranty repair done with 60# injectors and a twin turbo system on my C5. I guess you have to be ready to stand up for your rights. The manufacturer is required to prove that mods caused the failure in order to duck the repair. Abuse (like burnouts) is another story. To deny that the car wasn't designed for the HP, they would have to show that higher HP optional models (Z06, for example) incorporated different components. Of course the manufacturer an/or dealer will TRY to get away with whatever they can.
