Synthetic Oil on aftermarket camshafts???
I recently experienced a lifter failure in my C6 Grand Sport, resulting in replacing the cam, lifters, springs, push rods, etc.
I'm hearing that when you go to an aftermarket camshaft, you should no longer use synthetic oil but use 10W-40 conventional oil instead. Has anyone else heard of this??? I thought I'd throw it out there and see what the overall consensus is.... Thanks in advance! MT53 in Atlanta |

I have never heard that before but you could always check with the camshaft manufacturer and see what they recommend. |

I'll post it when I call BTR and Comp. It seems this may be the case for flat tappet cams, but not seeing a bunch of info supporting it for rollers.

I don't believe the roller cams need the high zinc break-in oil but it can't hurt anything either.

The high zinc break-in oil are essential for lubrication of not only the cam lobes but also the cam bearing surfaces and the crank bearings in a total engine rebuild. In your case where you replaced just the cam ( along with other related components ) it will have to go through the heat cycle to harden the lobe surface, typically running the engine at 2000 RPM’s for 20 minutes.
