Default 75 Vette Header Bolts

Hey, everyone, the very back bolt on the left header on the 75 350 is giving me a lot of trouble to get off. I tried the reg. 9/16 socket and extension, which didn't work, and then I tried a deep 9/16 which didn't work either. It's not that the bolt isn't 9/16, but the header is made such as that the I can't get a socket on there without hitting the tube. I tried a regular 9/16 wrench, and I couldn't get around the Brake Booster.
Thanks, Dave

what i did was take the box end of rench and grind down so that it is real thin, not to thin just enough for the rench to clear the tube, and it worked,if that dont work for u weld a bolt on the end of header bolt then wrench offf, then buy some stage 8 header bolts they go on with a allien wrench and lock with c- clips, will never loosen on u. they are called STAGE 8 BOLTS.......HOPE THIS HELPS U OUT,[IMG][/IMG]

I have to admit I don't recall much detail about how things fit under hood of a 75, but if the filed-down approach does not work there is another thing I used on a tight fit in similar circumstance. At most tool stores (Sears, Northern Tool, etc.) you can buy what looks like the end of an open end wrench made to fit on the end of a socket -- just a wrench head with a 3/8 inch square hole in it about 1/2 inch back. You might try one and see if it would slip in with your socket and an extension.

I HAVE USED THAT TOOL WORKS GOOD!I FOR GOT ABOUT THAT TOOL THAT SHOULD WORK IF GRINDING THE WRENCH WOLNT,TRY THE RENCH THING FIRST,THIS WAY IF IT DOES U WILL NOT HAVE TO SPEND ANY MONEY.IF IT DOESENT AND U HAVE A WELDER {MIG} NOT STICK,WELD A BOLT TO IT AND WRENCH IT OUT.AND IF THAT DONT WORK ,,,,BUY THAT TOOL! .[IMG][/IMG]....RICH OUT

Excuse me if i'm wrong but every set of headers i've had on every small block Chevys in forty years has used 3/8 header bolts with a hex head for a 7/16 wrench or socket, if those tools don't fit well you dimple the side of the header tube alittle next to the bolt. A standard 3/8 bolt with a 9/16 hex head will never fit good.

All the ones I have used 3/8 with a 7/16 head or smaller other than allen ends.
