Default Air Conditioning Issue.

Hello all,

I have a 2002 Z06 and have been experiencing some issues with the a/c. Whenever I press the a/c button in, the light comes on for a second and then flashes off. The air will blow, but not cold. When the button is pressed nothing happens, the compressor does not kick on. I did a search and was reading of someone on the forum with a similar problem, and that the car having little or no refrigerant may be to blame. Unfortunately, there has been no update on that thread. I have also read in some places that it could be the compressor itself, or possibly a relay. Anyone else have a similar issue? Just basically looking for somewhere to start any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

007

Being low on freon could cause the compressor to either come on and cycle off frequelenty or not come on at all. but I'm not sure the light would go off. That sounds like it might be a control issue. Could be a bad button, not holding or possibly a relay.
My first check would be the freon.

Checked the freon earlier, that's fine. My next step is to do a few relay swaps with a friend of mine tomorrow. Will keep the thread updated... Thanks for your response. (Beautiful car BTW!)

Yeah, you are describing exactly what happens with low refrigerant. It could be someting else but 90% of the time, its that.

Simple enough to have fixed, as long as you get it done before too many attempts to run it low ruin the compressor - refrigerant is also the lubricant for the compressor so running it low hastens its bearing and seal wear, etc..
