That casting number comes up as:

3970010....302.....69....4...Z-28 Camaro
3970010....327.....69....2...Trucks and industrial
3970010....350...69-80...2 or 4

The first Duntov engine were flathead Fords that had Ardun heads (basically a Ford Hemi configuration), probably worth more than the car they are in.

Duntov did a 265 CI small block around '55 for Harley Earl's Vettes with a pretty radical cam.

The last major Duntov engine creation that I know of was some fuel injection work in the 60's.

I would say that every Vette engine since 1955 is a Duntov. He was the guy responsible for pushing Chevrolet into swappable parts across models and even across brands.

Anyone got more info on this?

bill.

I know that the "Duntov, 30-30" cam was very popular with dirt track racers, to use in their small block Chevy engines. They were pretty radical for the street, in their day, as I remember.

Correctomundo C3, ZoraA Duntov was responsible for some of the performance parts for Chevy. Most notable was the famous 350 hp 327 Duntov cam which was the Corvette cam that GM sold for about $79.00 for many years.

Ahhh....yes! Another ol' timer that remembers the old days.
I have the old 350 that came out of the "Starship", I been thinkin' about lookin' for a "30-30" to put in it! I'll keep it around for a spare, never know, the 454 might wear out some day.

binderbird, the 3970010 is a pretty common casting, I've had 4 of them and they have all been 4-bolt blocks, the stock motor in my 78 is the same casting. The blocks that I've done any internal work on were 10% tin, 20% nickel, the alloy helps with expansion/contraction issues and improves the bore hardness for longer block life. It's a real good block to build up.
