Default installing new gauges

just purchased a pillar gauge pod for my 98 vette. (vacuum-differential temp.) has anyone ever installed a differential temp gauge ?? and i am concerned about hooking up the gauge lights. do i need to hook into wiring under the dash, so my new gauge lights come on when i put on the lights at nite, or can this be done with all wiring under the hood ?? i do not have a service manual and would someone have wiring diagram of the ignition swich and the color of the wires i need to splice into ??? i never worked on these newer type electronic/computer based cars and i do not want to screw anything up.......any help appreciated........thanks

I remember hooking my gauge lights into a wire I found over to the left of dash, near the bottom and easy to get to - can't remember what, now (it's been five years or so) but it was easy to get to.
