no power from ignision switch
i have no power to the starter when i turn key nothing worked fine i took the dash out to replace did i unplug somthing that might have somthing to do with it . i no its not the battery can any buddy help me ? thanks j
i would check all the connections. if all seems fine start working your way back from the starter and find where you lose voltage. i would get a factory manual and a wiring diagram if you havent yet ive worked out a few bugs on my 79 that i wouldnt of ever thought i could (headlights, wipers, horn, signal lights, radio, battery draw, ac blowerand hopefully my hot starting problem). all where not working when i bought the car but are working now. hopefully its something simple like most of my stuff was.
Hi 75vette, Lets back up a bit, what do you mean that you took the dash apart? Someone here told me to start with baby stepts so lets do that, is the battery fully charged? And are the connections tight and clean? And is the ground connection good? Do you get 12 volts to the "S' terminal on the selonid? Turn the starter switch to start and see if you get 12 volts to the terninal, if not the switch is bad. If you get 12 volts there than test test the selonid. If not jump it from the top battery terminal to the "S" terminal. If the starter does not engage and turn than the seloniod is bad. Tell me more and well go from there.PG.
Good call pg; let's DO back up...
WHY did you take the dash apart? That SHOULDN'T have had any effect on the starting system. Unless you disconnected the battery first, and didn't re-connect properly (ever read hayne's?
Flush coolant? 1) Disconnect the battery; Change a headlight? 1) Disconnect the battery; Constipated? 1) Disconnect the battery
...
Anyway ...............
Can we assume you have a '75??? How do you know what you know that's goin' on right now - what have you done since putting everything back together?
Can you re-post, and give a few more details? And a little punctuation in the right place will go a LONG way helping us help you here...
