Default Tires

Howdy, I have a 1987, l98 coupe with Cooper 275R40 17 ZEON 2XS tires all around. The fronts are still great but the rears are showing cords. I was hopeing someone here would be kind enough to explain the different compound hardness and durability of tires denoted by the rateings. the coopers were on it when I aquired it. I think they wore out too soon but perhaps I'm wrong. Maybe I keep my foot in it too much. are cooper tires a good choice or just a cheap choice that the previous owner( my goofy cousin) made. They seem fairly inexpensive at 136.00 installed. Would I be messing up getting a different type and quality as replacements for the rear set? would they fight each other front to rear? Cheers

Bro, I swear by Coopers!
I've gotten as much as 80g mileson a set. That was on the familly car though.
As you may note, in my sig, I have them on the "Starship"!
$435 for the set, mounted. Cooper Cobra GT Radials.
My Vette handles great, and not noticed any slippage in turns.
Ya, you might be a little heavy footed on the thottle, but who wants to burn up a set of $1200 tires?

I've had cooper tires on other much more powerful cars and not had them wear out so easily. Never had any problems with them. These tires on this car perform well, it handles great and is a very comfortable ride, they just seem to have worn out a little too soon for me. they must be a very soft compound. I just might have to take the lead out of my sneakers and get some of those highfalutin driving shoes...LOL.

My friend who yes is a ricer....has a neon with all the stupid stuff on it had coopers and he said the tread life was terriable and it had really bad road noise. Now I am saying they suck because yea I will agree that the tread life on his tires did go down quicker than mine and his only mod was....the fart can muffler...

Never noticed undue road noise, and like I said, get real good mileage.
Although, my mind might change after puttin' some real horses to 'em.

Are you putting on drag radials for street use and slicks for the track?
