Question 1970 lt1

I have what i believe to be a 1970 LT1. Has all the proper casting numbers. Piston 11 to 1 cast#3959456, crank cast#1182, block cast#3970010 4 bolt main with the added pan that bolts to the main caps, pink connecting rods and also a pan that goes in the valley with the push rods through it. I believe it's a counter exchange engine with the stamp of CE233789 behind the alternator on the block. There is also another stamp on the block where the starter bolts on that is V4 72921 Can anyone on this site help me properly identify this engine. It did have the 202 64cc heads. Don't have the cast#s for them though. Thanks

Welcome to the forum.

The "added pan" is called a windage tray which helps prevent the crank from turning the oil in to foam.

Is the CE233789 stamp on the block in front of the head where the original VIN stamp would have been?

If you don't get any answers here, try a web search. Also you might post in the C3 section as not everyone looks here.

I am assuming you have the whole car and not just the engine.

Yes the CE233789 is where the vin# would have been on the front of the block. All the web search has yielded thus far is that is an over the counter exchange engine. Yes I do have a corvette but not the 70s model. Sorry guys and gals but I personally believe corvette lost its sexy styling after 1967. So in this case I have just the motor. I am in the process of rebuilding it to factory correct condition or as close as i can come to it with the info that i have. Then will sell this motor and want to identify it properly at the time i do list it.

The correct Holley will not be cheap. Or do you still have the original?

Have the Holley. I have read so much on so many different forums and all I found out is that like me know one knows what the hell they are talking about. I believe the engine block was cast on April 11 1972 and set up under 1970 LT1 specs in 1972. I got the date of the block on the back. D112. And the set up date on the CE233789. The 2 being the year. I have run into a lot of different opinions on the piston cast#3959456. Some say yes 1970 LT1. Others say different casting#s. I guess without the proper stamp on the front of the block we will never know. Therefore making it a boat ancher and it will be treated as such. No time to mess with junk so I will scrap it.

I wouldn't throw it away even if torn down. It's still worth money as there are folks out there that could still use a good hipo SBC.

If they want to give me three grand for the short block minus cam and lifters they can have it. Not original cam anyway. I will even put it back together with new bearings. Already bought them anyway. Am keeping the rest for a pickup project.

So basically block, crank, & pistons? Sounds a tad expensive to me but somebody might want it. Crate engines start around there and are complete w/ warranty. Good luck.
