Hello
Hello,
My name is Jim. I have a 1980 Corvette. She is black on black with 82,000 original miles. The seatcovers are worn out, but I have new covers, which I plan on installing soon. She is basiclly stock except for the motor. All of the pollution items are gone, an edelbrock manifold and carbeurator were installed as were headers. I have owned her for about 6 years, and have spent about $10,000.00 on her already. I had lost interest in her following the birth of my daughter in 2004, but have a renewed interest. My biggest problem now is that the engine and transmission seals are leaking as evidenced by the large puddle of oil and transmission fluid on the garage floor.
My question is I want to install an onverdrive transmission in her to help increase my fuel mileage. If I remember correctly, the 82 had a 200R4 overdrive in it, right? If so, has anyone out there put an overdrive transmission in their C3. If so, what type, and are you happy with the results.
My second question is the 350 in 1980 had pathetic 170 horsepower. I am considering installing a GM performance products 350/330hp crate motor. Has anyone done this, if so, are you happy with the results. Other than that, she is cherry. Thanks in advance to everyone for their advice.

Welcome to the forums, Jim! You will be amazed at the excellent techs we have here, who are ready to help with a moments notice on issues we have. I am afraid I don't know much about your transmission question, but as for the CRATE motor idea... hoh boy, my friend, many folks have gone that route with EXCELLENT results. If you go with the bored out 383 ZZ3 (I believe it is) you can get over 400hp out of the box with that beast, and that's the ground floor. It's all up, up, up from there! Depending on how fast you want to go, and how much you want to spend. The other thing, I understand, is you get a warranty with those. If it were me, I'd run down to your supplier and order me up one of those!!!

Topspeed is right, we have a great bunch here that are more than willing to help.
I have an '80 L82 for which I'm building a 400 hp, 454. I've heard good things about the 383 crate motors. Don't be shy, ask around the forums about any questions you may have.
