Default New to Corvettes

Greetings to all,

It's taken me a long time to end up with a Corvette - a 2007 Monterey Red convertible with manual transmission. Before the 'vette I had a BMW 330ci convertible, with automatic. It was a great car, but the 'vette is much stronger, if noiser and not as well refined. The wind and road noise at speed in the Corvette is much higher than in the 330ci. Also, I notice that the C6 is a lot more skittish than the Bimmer at speed around curves that feature uneven surfaces and tar strips and cracks (we have a lot of those in Pennsylvania.

Before the Bimmer I had a VW Cabrio 5-speed ( a good car but not a great sports car), a Triumph TR-8 convertible 5-speed, an MG Midget, Datsun 260Z, 240Z, 2000 Roadster and a Triumph Spitfire. Guess I'm still chasing my youth, but it is a fun car and brings a smile to my face on the road. Still, when driving it you know you're the king of the road.

One thing I've noticed. No one ever said anything to me about my grey metallic BMW, but an incredible number of folks have complimented me on the Corvette. Except my BMW salesman (we also have an X5), who expressed dismay that I didn't get an M3 and predicted I'd be back. We'll see.

But one thing that is both damned annoying and distracting is the 1 - 4 shift. When I'm in traffic I don't want the bloody thing trying to force me to shift from 1 to 4, even if that might help GM with its CAFE requirements. Then I'm fighting to get it into 2nd so I'll have the power to stay with traffic or to get out of the intersection. Is that something the dealer can switch off?

Welcome aboard mcu643
I know there's someone here that will be able to answer your question, and I am almost positive you can do something with that annoying 1 >> 4 shift.
Start checking out some of the websites

Welcome. You can buy a 29$ fitting (I-CAGS) that slips into the tranmssion wiring harness and kills the 1-4 forced shift. Look at the C6 topic area for info about it -- someone posted a complaint about it there today and I gave a long answer about where to buy they iCags and how to install it.
