I just puchased a 1995 Corvette Cpe with 6 spd. The car has 88K and seems to be in good shape. There is a thump when I shift the gears in the rear area so I'm assuming there is some u-joint issues and the transmission makes some noise when sitting in neutral - is this normal? What would ya'll do right off the bat after purchasing as far as routine maintenance? Any help is appreciated.

Welcome to CF!
That "thump" in the rear, is more than likely, the center differential mounting bushing.
The noise in the tranny is most likely normal wear, I'd change the tranny oil. This will help keep the prob from getting worse due to fine metals in the oil causing more wear.
